Equipped with industry-standard learning technologies, Ashmore TAFE’s Trade Training Centre is the outstanding trades training hub on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
The specialised Ashmore campus facility offers a number of trades and trade-related study areas. Disciplines include automotive, cabinet making, carpentry, competitive systems, building and construction, electrotechnology, engineering and welding, horticulture, mining, plumbing, wet trades, and Workplace Health and Safety.
Ashmore TAFE needed a brand new welding bay fitout to keep up with modern standards and ensure they were providing suitable conditions for staff and students.
Having completed numerous trade training centre fitouts, Flexshield were the only company in Australia with the expertise to provide a suitable solution to meet Ashmore TAFE’s requirements.
The solution
Flexshield’s previous industry-specific experience with similar projects enabled the team to suggest a unique welding bay solution. The project combined existing techniques with new solutions specifically for the application, to improve throughput and ensure the facility was compliant and up to standards.
Flexshield conducted a number of site visits in the design phase, keeping the client closely involved in the design process to meet access and usability requirements. Ashmore TAFE’s input was vital in coming up with a viable means of installation, ensuring contractors complied with all site regulations.
The solution was designed and developed over the course of a number of months. Once the design was finalised Flexshield manufactured, delivered and installed the solution over 6 weeks.
The complete welding bay solution incorporated 18 Sonic Acoustic welding bays, a teacher’s/demo bay, grinding room, three grinding downdraft benches, welding mats, welding tables, and trolleys, welder storage benches, oxy benches, quench tanks, compressed air, fume extraction system, plus gas and electrical reticulation.
The results
The new Trade Training Centre facility showcases Flexshield’s ability to provide innovative turn-key welding bay fit-outs.
The new larger bays, with their increased work area and better layout, will help Ashmore TAFE enjoy increased productivity and fewer incidents. Overall, they now have a more pleasant, spacious, acoustically friendly and compliant workspace.
Will all the necessary OHS documentation/procedures and systems be in place, Flexshield were fully compliant with the very strict OHS standards of a Government project.
