Initial project requirements

A resident living next door to a Caltex service station complained about the noise from their air con unit and the chiller unit running their coolroom and fridges. The complaint went to the council who agreed that it needed to be fixed.

Project challenges

Flexshield was selected thanks to their ability to provide a customised solution. The Flexshield team attended site and met with the client twice to discuss an appropriate solution.

After an initial meeting on site to look at the problem, Flexshield arranged for a professional noise assessment, which confirmed the noise levels were over the allowed limit. Flexshield’s solution was designed around these findings.

Flexshield fabricated an acoustic wall panel made from Sonic Panel around the fixed plant and equipment to mitigate the noise and both satisfy EPA requirements and stop residential complaints.

The acoustic wall was not reflective, to ensure the sound was not reflected back at the next-door neighbour. From purchase order to completion, the installation process took around 4 weeks.

The solution

Caltex naturally expected that the works would be completed safely, with no risk to employees or the public, and to result in complete noise compliance. Flexshield achieved all these goals. Thanks to the installation of acoustic walls, the next-door neighbour was happy and withdrew their noise complaint. Council closed the case.

If you have a noise complaint that needs to be addressed, Flexshield’s expert team can supply the solution.
